Okaay.... First off, have you ever been on the staff of a fan-written season? Especially when the staff is comprised of fans of the show who are already juggling Real Life and aren't getting paid to write episodes? I have. Writers of a fan-written season are essentially working on it with what little free time they have. They have to cram breakdowns, edits, writing, and overall revisions into a small space of time, and are constantly looking over their shoulders for continuity quirks. The series I'm currently on encompasses four spin-offs and has a core staff of thirty people, and we still find ourselves pressed for time. How many people are on the LGM VS writing team? Three. Just three.

The original writers for LGM were PAID TO DO IT. It wasn't like they were doing it in their free time. There were a lot more than three of them, and they were able to sit down together and hash out a coherent story arc, and compare notes on episodes to make sure they didn't contradict one another. Doug, Sally, and Holly are (I assume) limited to e-mail communications and have to work around their own differing schedules in order to spend time on the virtual season.

Also, your assertion that there's been nothing tying any of the episodes together is incorrect. Go back and read the endings of "Blind Mice" and "Actual Malice." The scenes between Yves and the Professor are short and don't tell us much, but they are connected. Are they in every episode? No, because the writers are spacing them out. Most series would do the same thing.

Then why are you?

If you think you can do better, apply for the VS staff. Or try to write your own virtual season.

Frankly, what "The Lone Gunmen" deserved was a second season on Fox, but the network wasn't about to give it a chance. Doug, Sally and Holly are giving up their free time to give us their own take on the second season, and I for one appreciate it. Sure, if I find an error or have some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism to share, I'll point it out... but I'm not going to discourage them by saying things like "the Gunmen deserve better." Because if they up and quit, who's going to try a virtual season? I know I couldn't get it right.
