Subject: I think a straight % that qualifies would make the most sense. The discrepancy between the boys and girls comps. as is is insane.

You may have 1st 2nd etc and a few ties with Irish Points, but World and National qualifiers could be based off judges marks instead of Irish Points. Use the 10% bottom dancers’ score plus ~2 points. So for a group of 100 dancers, the top 10% would world qualify, plus anyone who had judges mark totals within ~2 points of that 10th dancer’s judges score total. So if there were 5 dancers who within a point or two of judges marks of the 10th dancer they would qualify. A single point from one judge can separate the 10th place and 15th place. Qualifying should be about skill, not ranking.

Boys is a separate argument as there are limited number of boys to keep the tradition and culture well.

More dancers at nationals and worlds is just more money and better economy.

Every dancer should be well celebrated for dancing, it’s hard to see any dancer walking away without recalling (frustrates, crying, ready to hang up the shoes), and those that did recall should be truly thankful and grateful for having competitors who danced with them, teachers knowing they didn’t have a chance. Celebrate all the dancers who tried and supported Oireachtas by attending.
