Subject: Random notes play in bass register between tracks

Once the first signal is detected from the cassette (when the alignment lamp goes out)a bunch of random notes play in the bass register then normal playing commences. The same thing happens between tracks. If I press Stop during a song random notes (or the last notes played) in the bass will latch on and I have to power the unit off then back on for the notes to release. Any ideas?
