Remove the solenoid plunger from the coil and clean both surfaces (the plunger and sleeve) with alcohol... there will be accumulated grey gunk, lint, etc. Then reassemble without adding any kind of lubricant and adjust the position via the mounting screws to ensure that the solenoid coil is as vertical as possible (so that the plunger can fall straight down when the note releases, minimally contacting the sides of the sleeve). I have heard of people optionally wiping the plunger with carnauba wax (i.e. Pledge furniture polish) and then wiping it off (get it as clean as possible) before reinserting it into the coil.
