Your review of Strikeforce is a nice start, but it's missing many important details. The critical one is the 2-player co-op mode.

Remember how you could only shoot "left" and "right"? In Strikeforce you can switch to a "pod" mode. As a pod, you can fire in the 8 primary directions a-la Robotron 2084 but you can't move very well.

But here's the beauty: one player switches to pod and then merges with the Defender style ship. So one of you gets to play "Defender-style" and the other gets to play "gunner".

Because of the massive range of weapons and enemies and *critically* different creatures are suseptable to different weapons, the end result is the gunner and pilot communicate throughout the game over what to attack next, what weapons to employee and how you are going to perform the attack. This. Simply. Rocks.

BTW: You can acquire far more than 10 marines off the bottom of your ship. From time to time I'd do so well protecting my men that I would have (I would guess) 50 to 80 of them... and their firepower at that point is devistating. It's also very tragic when one well placed enemy blast cleans them all off in one swipe.. Or hillarious if you run them into something that knocks them off your ship and sends them flying about the planet (at which point your mission becomes "slow grownd fly-bys" so they can use their jump packs to hop back onboard.

The review reads like the person only ever played single-player, which means they greatly missed out on game's best features.
