Well, I gotta tell ya that i got to hear and meet the boys Before the tour even started!
I live in Miami (myMammy) and through aLOT! of help from WIRE and some freinds from orlando, FL and Miami as well, I got to go to the Miami Arena for the "soundchecks" From theoutside we could hear the music as long as u got about 10 feet from the doors of the arena, in any direction. There was a gentleman there, Mike who had a CB radio that picked up the Edges guitar (considering that since its wireless the sounds up in the air like radiowaves it could be picked up, thats how the bootleg for the soundcheck before the first night of the tour is possible, the one with Bonos speech at the end!)
We would listen in on them talking and Edge talking to Dallas and Larry way in the background from behind the kit.
Once in a while we would here Adam.
Speaking of which, on the 1st night of them being down there, we waited around for them and they just took off in thier Lincoln Towncars. The following day, SAT afternoon, we hung out for a bit. It was Cory, Allison, David, Mike and myself. Hanggin out mindng our own business I take a gander over and we see Adams bodyguard hanggin out and smoking a cigg, I guess we were a little jealouse and we wanted to be in his shoes so made fun of hime from afar. But to our surprise about half an hour later, guess who comes walkin across the street WITHOUT the bodyguard!!!!!
we was all like "holy SH*T!" He came up to us non shalant ( I hope i spelled it right)and was like "are u the guys that were here last night"
we was like "yea?"
Then he says" Im sorry we didnt stop, we was vey tied"
I remember sayin wether he ehard me or not, "dude, u dont need to apologize to US!".....
he signed for us took pictures with us and cracked a couple of jokes with us, like when they showed him the cover of the ATYCLB albumn, he was like what a miserable bunch that is! hahaha!
He was the 1st to sign my european copy of BOY.
Then came the night time....
We heard a couple of other tunes and then the cars started comming out again this time Adam came out again and so did Edge being the 2nd to sign for Mua. That was like O MY GOD- 2 FOR 2 FOR ME!
I wouldve never thought i wouldve ever met so many of them.
the 3rd night, SUN night, i was there again.
Not much happened- but BONO came out this timesaid hello and signed not alot but he was the 3rd to sign my BOY albumn! He let us take pics and we was all like(by that time there was about 40 of us)we was all like "you guys sound great from out here" Bono- "U guys can hear us from out here?"
On Mon I decided to take a day off, go figure that thats when Larry comes out. The one guy that Ive been wanting to sing, of the 2 main reasons that i decided to play drums, and i didnt get him to sign nor even see him.
The TUES following that I said no more! I have to b there all the time! So after that we was there every night, With Bono comming out the most and Larry doing drive by hellos from INSIDE his SUV. on THURS, Bono shows up in his LitePurple Mercedes, with Gavin Friday in the passenger side. Sayin hello to everyone. I walked around to get a closer look at Bonos best mate. That was like "geezuz not only my boys, but Gavin Friday TOO!?"
Man that was sooooo cool.
FRI night- (BY THIS TIME THERES ABOUT 100 PPL THERE FROM ENGLAND TO MIAMI TO CALIFORNIA TO MAINE AND SO ON)
We all gather for the final soundcheck rehearsal and they sound awsome. With like about 2 falty starts and the opening song from which we was all like "whos that band!?" Not knowing that it was The New Radicals- Cant get enough.
Then the as its been called "trippy Elevation" beggining. With them starting with Beautiful day and so on and so on.
By the end of the night the sound check was pretty identical right from the New radicals opening tune to Elevation start, to Until...World and so on.
With about 100 ppl all around the arena singing along to all the tunes and becomming familiar with the songs that would b heard the following night in Ft Lauderdale, we were like in our own private "Heart"
The night ends with boys gathering with crew, tech, family
and .....well us....hehehe....with the Father for the tours blessing, and ending with Bono's speech for the homeless and the tours well outcome.
Its kinda wierd considering that they blessed them selves to have a great tour and comming out the biggest selling tour of 2001 and once again...THE BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD!
