my advice would be not to bother performing a click on the menu option. What you could be doing is have all the recent list menu options not enabled(or hide it) and when you open a new file enable(or unhide) the menu option.
For each of your recent list options you can just set up a new subroutine to do the tasks required(Just select your mnurecent1 from one drop down list and click from the other).
If you need to perform a click such as on a command button or a menu item it is exactly how ronnie said
i.e. mnurecent.performclick
I think 6-2 is by far the hardest assignment ive done to date(Im currently working through Chapter 8).
