I think there is a list of recommended books on this site. Whe I asked the same question I was advised to get Wallace Wang's "Visual Basic.net for Dummies"; ISBN 0-7445-0847-9.
UK price £24.98 but you can probably get it on e-bay or Amazon for quite a bit less. I think I bought mine in Ottakars, also at some sort of discount.
There are lots of forums where you can get help with things too.
