My wife and I are currently living out of a motel room in the Lafayette area. She's working at one of the high schools, and I'm assisting fellow evacuees at the library (I took a couple of exams for full-time positions yesterday). We have leads on two apartments currently; one I think we'll be approved for, the other we'll be able to see next week. We put our furnishings in storage out here over the weekend. I managed to tape SNL when we were in N.O. over the weekend, and I hooked up my VCR to the motel TV so I could watch it this week. Nice gaffe on the Anderson Cooper sketch - Ray Nagin doesn't govern over Jefferson Parish, and the majority of housing in that area isn't in need of rebuilding. I'd guess the setting was supposed to be the Ninth Ward, where floodwaters have receded. Places like New Orleans and Chalmette are still well-flooded, from what I understand. My family decided to go back to the suburb of Metairie in Jefferson Parish (well, they are homeowners), but Jackie and I will stay out here on level, if not higher, ground.
