Confused,
I am not a theologian...and by no means could I discern what issues concern you regarding this...and my idea may be totally out of whack...but, I think every is created equal in God's eyes...He loves us each the same...so much that He gave His Son to die for us...to cleanse us of the sin that separates us from Him. I think God created man and woman because He wanted to have a relationship with us. The difference between a Christian and a non-Christian, is that the Christian has accepted --- not rejected --- God's Son as his/her Savior. The Christian has said, I believe that Jesus is God's Son, that He did die for me, and because He died, these things in my life that alienate me from God, have a way of being dismissed.
But, I think it absolutely breaks God's heart when we reject His Son...If you have children of your own --- think how badly you feel when someone is mean or rejects your child. It's a simple example, but I know I have been heartbroken at times when the world has hurt the feelings or physically hurt my children.
But I do think that God still loves non-Christians, or else He would not give them chance after chance to accept Jesus as their Lord and SAviour.
We, as Christians, do not always treat people equally...and that is wrong. The Bible speaks against discrimination and prejudice. We don't have to embrace the beliefs or practices of others that are different from us...but we are called to love them, pray for them...and witness to them in hopes that they will come to God's grace.
God does hate sin. But, He certainly does not hate the sinner. Sometimes, we here on earth, have a difficult time discerning between the sin and the sinner.
I hope my perspective did not make your confusion worse.
I pray that God will give you the clear thinking you seek on this matter.
