Author: Mariah & Aaron
Subject: Mariah returned home...

She turned the car off, fighting angry. Mariah slammed the car door shut hard, and stormed into the estates. She flung her keys on the couch in the den and sat down hard. She was frustrated, hurt, and angry as the devil. She crossed her arms across her chest, her eyes cold and hateful. She got tired of that position and laid down on the couch, covering her head with the pillows.

About a ten minutes later, Mariah was yanked from her thoughts by someone knocking at the door. She got up, her hair falling out of the flop she had put it in, and answered the door.

Her half-brother, Aaron, stood, leaning on his crutches. Mariah opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Finally, she managed, "H-how'd you get here?"

Aaron shifted his weight to the other crutch. "John drove me over," he said. He waited a moment, before saying, "Okay, Mariah. I'm not God at your doorstep. You don't need to gawk. Let me in, please?"

Mariah moved out of the doorway. Aaron picked himself up and into the doorway, barely making it over the doorstep. He shifted his crutches under his arms, and moved himself over to the couch. His shirt was already damp from sweat. He pointed to the seat beside him, and said, "Sit down, Mariah. You and me need to have a serious talk."

Mariah went over to the couch, her face tight in frustration. She sat down beside him, and looked at him, trying to act cool and collected as she asked, "What?"

Aaron picked at the scab on his wrist, and said, "The fight with Valerie...I don't want you doing that anymore. You'll get hurt. You're going to have yourself a beautiful baby here in a little bit, and you don't need to hurt yourself or the baby pickin' fights with her or her friends. Valerie came back after you tore off like a damn maniac and threatened to report you to the police.. Oh, and that's another thing you shouldn't be doing," he added.

Mariah raised a brow and asked, "What shouldn't I be doing?"

Aaron looked at her, his eyes solemn. "Driving like you do. That's how I got myself in such a shape. By God, you don't want to be in the same thing I was in. Too many people care about you, unlike they do me. I watched you tear off like you did today, and you are awful damn lucky you didn't ram into someone. I was going 110 that day. You were going, I'd say, about 95. You cut that sh!t out. I had the tow man take my car to the shop, and when I seen it, Lord, I realized I was pretty damn lucky I walked away like I did. As for you, you got more than yourself to watch out for now. Just be careful. You're my little sister, and Lord knows I'd blame myself if anything happened to you," he said, pulling her into a hug.

Mariah started to sob. Aaron patted her back, letting her have a good cry to get rid of her frustrations. He reached over on the coffee table and grabbed a tissue for her. He handed it to her, and Mariah blew her nose in it. "There's a good girl," he said when she was finished crying. "Feel better?" he asked, pulling back from her, and looking in her eyes.

Mariah shrugged. "I guess," she mumbled. Aaron patted her back, and pushed himself to his feet. Mariah looked up at him and asked, "Where you going?"

Aaron placed a hand on her shoulder, and said, "Just stay here." He picked his crutches up and supported himself with them. He pulled Chase off the living room couch and into the kitchen. Aaron was a really tall guy. Standing at the height of six feet and two inches, he was rather scary at first glance. He had a basketball player's strong, but lean build. He looked down at Chase, and asked, "Can I ask you a favor?"
