IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I POSTED ON THIS SITE, BUT I FEEL THE NEED TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE WITH FOLKS WHO ARE UNDECIDED ABOUT TREATING THEIR DISEASE. I AM 44 YRS.OLD AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HCV 3YRS AGO. THE DOCS TESTED ME AND DISCOVERED MY LIVER WAS SO FAR GONE THAT THE ONLY COURSE FOR ME WASA LIVER TRANSPLANT. TREATMENT WAS USELESS. I WENT THROUGH A BATTERY OF TESTS FOR 10 DAYS STRAIGHT. ON APRIL 22ND I OFFICIALY RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING I WAS LISTED AS A LIVER RECEIPIANT. MAY 26TH, MEMORIAL DAY THE PHONE RINGS AT 6:AM IT IS THE HOSPITAL TELLING ME THEY HAVE A LIVER FOR ME. SHOCK! DISBELIEF! AMAZEMENT! ALL OVERCOME ME AT ONCE. HOW LUCKY COULD I POSSIBLY BE. PEOPLE WAIT FOR YEARS, PEOPLE DIE WATING FOR THIS CALL AND I GOT IT IN ONE MONTH. I WAS THE LUCKIEST WOMAN ON EARTH. I WAS READY FOR THIS! WE GO TO THE HOSPITAL THE NEXT THING I REMEMBER IS WAKING UP WITH TUBES EVERYWHERE, NOSE, THROAT, NECK, STOMACH AND I COULDN'T SPEAK. COME TO FIND OUT THE DATE WAS JUNE 18TH. I HAD BEEN IN A POST-OP COMA FOR 23 DAYS. I HAAD ALMOST DIED. ACTUALY I DID DIE, BUT WAS BROUGHT BACK. I LAID IN THE ICU UNIT FOR ANOTHER 14 DAYS. NO EAT NO DRINK NO TALK JUST LIKE A VEGETABLE. HELPLESS AS A NEWBORN BABY. IN A LOT OF WAYS MY SURGERY WAS LIKE A NEW BIRTH. IT GAVE ME A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE. I DIDN'T LEAVE THE HOSPITAL TILL AUGUST 19TH. AND I STILL NEED NURSES AND THERAPISTS TO COME INTO MY HOME ON A DAILY BASIS TO TAKE CARE OF ME. DURING MY DEEP SLEEP I LOST ALL FUNCTION OF MY KIDNEYS AND MUST ATTEND RENAL-DIALYSIS 3X A WEEK. I GO TO TRANSPLANT CLINIC 2X A WEEK. I GUESS IT IS A TRADE-OFF OF SORTS. I HAVE HOPE THAT ONCE I AM MORE MOBILE MY KIDDNEYS WILL KICK IN AND START TO PRODUCE URINE. I STILL HAVE IV'S IN MY ARM, I HAVE A DIALYSIS PORT IN MY NECK WHICH GOES DIRECTLY IN MY HEART. SOME DAYS ARE GOOD AND SOME ARE VERY BAD. ON THE BAD DAys i wonder if it was WORTH IT, ALL THE ANGUISH MY FAMILY WENT THRU, ALL THE PAIN I AM GOING THRU, I AM NOT SO SURE. BUT MY TINY BIT WISDOM IS TO TELL FOLKS IF YOU CAN TAKE THE TREATMENT DO IT!!!!!! DON'T WAIT TILL IT ISS TOO LATE. NOW, DON'T GET ME WRONG; NOT EVERYONE HAS COMPLICATIONS LIKE MINE IF YOU NEED A TRANSPLANT DO IT!!! THANK YOU FOR THE SPACE TO POST MY DRAMA LORIANNE

So nice to see you again, my friend! Glad to hear that you came thru the transplant with flying colors! Listen....this is an old board and I just came in by accident....pushed the wrong bookmark.

Come to the new board that I started, "Moans and GRoans".....LOTS of hcv people there....mostly women and we have a really nice little "family" going and would love to have you!

The Public Enema is a humorous board about current events that has been around for years....and Moans and Groans is under the same commuity.
