We're getting be old friends, eh? Forgive me if I came on too strong about this. I have had an experience or two with doctors, as I am sure many have, and have learned to take "the bull by the horns" so to speak.

I thought you had seen a neurologist (which is often where a pcp sends you first who then send you to a neurosurgeon if appropriate). I guess I would just urge you to seek another opinion. What the neuro told you just doesn't make sense (to me) - if your spinal cord is being damaged where help breathing is around the corner - well, the docs I know would at least *attempt* to remove the pressure and not just send you home and tell you to get ready for the worst. During the past year and a half when I have dealt with this spinal crapola, I have read quite alot and now I'm almost a neurologist. . .LOL! Surgery can't correct everything and I certainly believe in avoiding it if possible, but there are times. . .

Hope to read in the future that you are feeling better. Nerve pain is. . .hmmm, well, it sucks. Have you been to physical therapy? Acupuncture (it can help with pain)? Traction? Sometimes I decide I will march right in there and demand that my neck be removed and my head place directly on my shoulders. Very feeble humor.

He said he could take the disc out to releave the presure
but he also said if he tried to fuse a bone that it would not take due to my years of smoking cigs. And for the same reason he said I was a very poor cantidate for surgery
at all.all this was said by my nero surgen,Not my PCP.
I want to thank you so much for all you have told me.
If you want to e-mail me feel free chuffman4@yahoo.com

My mom's been a smoker for about 50 years. She had spine fusions all up and down a few years back. The ortho made her quit smoking for about 6 weeks prior to surgery...which she did. She has had to have 2 of these surgeries and has fused just fine. If that is his ONLY reason....doesn't make sense?

Anyway...something this serious...would be more comfortable with you getting a 2nd opinion! smoooooch....PLEASE feel better!!.....Carol
