Subject: Foot Operated Transmission Sports Mode Switch

Last longwinded report on my series of modifications as, for the time being, I'm running out of spare money and of things to easily modify.

My complaint with the auto transmision on the V6 was that switching between standard and sports mode was difficult because the button is placed on the wrong side of the transmission selector, it has the little used snow mode button in front of it and it's difficult to find with your hand in a hurry.

I wanted to wire in a foot pedal switch but Peugeot were remarkably unhelpful and I was worried that since the device was a function of the computer which controls the transmission it might be very expensive to have fixed if I wrecked the computer by faulty wiring. I was totally wrong. The modification is a doddle. I used a foot pedal switch off a dictating machine, attached it to the foot rest in the left of the driver footwell and wired it in parallel with the yellow and brown wires (5 & 4) on the button. Simple job, no hidden complexities and it works a treat. The original button remains operable but I'll probably never touch it again.

Now I can change in and out of sports mode with a tap of my left foot whenever I need the sheer grunt that holding down the gears gives and whenever I need to encourage the box to change up to save fuel. I really recommend this mod to any auto box jockeys who feel that they made a mistake in not buying the manual box. If anyone needs to know more details I'm only too happy to oblige.
