In reply to: Iain Brodie 's message, "Winter tyres" on 13:08:40 11/16/01 Fri

Narrower tyres are better for snow because they 'cut' it better (no aquaplaning) and also there is more room for chains. If you buy 205 or 225 winter tyres you can freely mount them on original wheels. Narrower ones (195) might be to narrow and can just slip-of wheels.
Height (diameter) of tyres is important because of clearing and chains montage. 205/50 tyres do not have planty of 'body' to keep chains in place (they are about 10cm in height). Usualy winter tyres are 65 or more (205/65). Mounting 205/70 tyres could make not enough clearing for chains (see absorbers) because they are 15cm heigh (so 50% more then 205/50). So, only sollution is to mount 195/70/15 or less if discs have enough place (new tyres, new wheels).
I asked a friend in Peugeot Croatia, Peugeot Service and shop where I buy tyres and they all DO NOT suggest to use chains on Coupe.
