Author: PHOTRON
Subject: It took the holographic historian a moment to realize....
In reply to: CAL-37 's message, ""Perhaps you should keep your eyes on what you have..."" on 16:37:42 07/08/02 Mon

...but the unusual unicycle was not addressing him aloud; he was transmitting his message silently.

"Circuits and Diodes! They never tell me anything! Gone only a few hours and they hire some tangible metal moron to oversee...."

This last thought gave him pause. He had been very careful to conceal his unauthorized transmission to COM, even leaving responsive subroutines of himself should anyone call for him. Most days it was rare; the military officials ran their own simulations without need of an interactive host, and PHOTRON had many lonely days to review his SPUniversal history files. A quick scan and integration of several of his personality subroutines revealed he only had two visitors: Oni, one of the few he considered a friend, and Rotor, one of the more respectable Autobot security officers. Rotor he had actually returned to speak with briefly given his security access; Oni he had not.

"I'll have to apologize for not being all here the next time I see Oni...he seemed distressed. Perhaps it had something to do with that laser-blade he trained with?

Still, analysis of operational logs shows no authorization of any new personnel, physical or A.I. Who IS this to speak of my 'absence' anyway?

PHOTRON eyed the soldiers across the arena. He could easily signal them if he had to, but he wasn't about to interfere in their business. He could handle this. He would handle this. If not, at least help was nearby...

"I think you might have some orders crossed, friend..." he began, "I'm going to need to see a digitally signed writ from Captain Howitzer or at least someone in the upper tiers of this station. I realize there may be some blind ones who lack enough vision to question my handling of this facility, and they do spring things like ceremonies on me with little time to prepare, but I hardly expect to find additional staff without at least having some inkling. As for your 'absence' remark, it only proves that it is YOU who are recently arrived....I've been here for some time. I'm integrated into the entire holo-mainframe. it's a bit large, and I don't always manifest as a projection, so I can give you the benefit of the doubt that maybe I was in another section or near-line while you were.....fiddling.

What ARE you doing anyway? A name and some official documentation would be most appreciated now."

Even as he awaited a reply, PHOTRON wondered about his cryptic opening line. It did offer a certain insight n the part of this rude new arrival. Were the Holo-rooms really PHOTRON's? He thought of them as his ever since he came online, and no one knew better than he the subtler obscure details of SPUniverse history. Still he was never treated with the respect he deserved, never called upon for anything really important. Setting up a hard-light chapel for that fiasco wedding a few months back. Creating a platform for the Captain to address the crew following the tragic WR@ affair. Menial tasks from his perspective, hardly worth his projection expenditure. PHOTRON probably knew more than Molly and Kathryn did, being so integrally linked to the station's data files. But when people wanted to know something they went to the library and scrolled through the consoles to find answers PHOTRON could call up on the spot.

PHOTRON desired much. Respect. Adventure. Com. Keep his eyes on what he had? That was precisely what he intended to do. He began an internal scan of all known mechanoids matching CAL-37's description. Thrust. Cyclodrone Carl. He even scanned characteristics of similar robots such as Wreck-gar, Groove, Terrodoc and Motocron. Millions of likenesses and vocal simulations were at his disposal, and if any were similar to this brazen 'guest', be it SBR staff or otherwise, sooner or later he would find it.

After all, it wasn't like CAL-37 just popped into the SPUniverse overnight....
