AstroCreds were originally the main form of finances that helped establish Rugby. Originally, there was no need for money in the actual Starbase because of the War Status of the Military. Money was transfered on Cybertron and SB-Rugby recieved more materials and technology for expansion to it's defensive perimeter.

The Corridor (it was found) was the quickest route between the sectors besides use of Trans-Warp. Since the maintenance of Trans-Warp Gates was expensive, The Corridor became a regular channel of traffic between Cybertron and Rugby.

Since the war has ended and relations between Cybertron and the Starbase have deteriorated, the need for an economy in Rugby was established.

Foreign trade became one of Rugby's major economy boosters. The Starbase traded with Manar and with various solar systems in the farther sectors. Rugby took on the responsibility of maintaining the Entrance to the Corridor and keeping it safe...quickly becoming a major trade route throughout the nine sectors. Tarriffs were imposed for the maintenance of ships, hiring of crews and supporting of staff.

The various solar systems in the general vicinity saw the good of having a major trade route and they also saw the good of having a starbase with a military presence there to protect against pirating (which was a major problem in those days).

With the huge researcher population on Rugby, new technologies were developed and in fact boomed. With the new technologies was a proverbial gold-rush in the surrounding star systems to buy components and upgrade their own technologies.

The economy at Rugby exploded creating a need for technicians, engineers, maintenance workers, developers, marketing departments, orators and designers.

Earthanics (Earth-blood humans) who had populated many of the surrounding star systems flocked to Rugby as did Nebulans who had a close afiliation with many of the Cybertronians but were interested in Rugby's new technological advances. (Such as the teleporter systems that were established in key points of the starbase). Earth-born businesses eager to open expand into various areas (especially a key area like the Entrance into the Corridor) began to bid for an area of Rugby to be franchised.

The Starbase, new to the idea of giving out portions of the starbase for money, at first balked at the idea. Patrons of Tankup's Bar made extremely well-spoken arguments (considering that many were drunk at the time) in support of having a proper dining facility besides the Mess Hall of Rugby.

It was decided, a restaurant was established for sit-down eating as well as the renowned fast-food establishment--McDonald's.

With the key positioning of the McDonald's the AstroCreds flowed through Rugby and were infused back into it's economy.

Rugby had become a fully operational and self-sufficient Starbase with little homeworld support after the dissolution of their relationship.
