Subject: RE Kevin Saunderson post and music.

In re to that post. As a Dj I think you should play what you feel and not what others do. Theres nothing more annoying in my opinion than when a djs kane a tune just cos its getting alot of hype. This creates a sense of one dj one sound, daytime KISS is a prime example. Do those jocks share their dam tunes.

Diversity is the way to go, and create a sound that you can be imediately recognised for. So what if the first tune you put on dont do nothing for people. Keep playing and if people stick around i,m sure it will be cos of your vibe. Play with the crowd, if you see somepeople getting a bit disintrested then drop a tune that they can relate to. A bit of M&S Salsoul or Spiller. Keep a few in your box as they come in handy. Its all about playing what you like and educating the people. Before I ever had decks I used to listen to the tunes and think dam man thats a good track where and what format can I get it on. So I invested in some decks and sought the tunes I wanted.

I like to get records that no one else is playing, and yes sometimes decide not to even buy a tune I like if it is getting rocked round every dance floor in town. This creates your own style and you dont sound like the next man.

Just play what you feel even if it means you may not get that elusive gig with 20 thousand people. As I am sure you,ll fell much better playing to a crowd of 100 who are into your thing. Many people I know say they play these clubs and they have to tailor their set to the audience. F*ck that man play what you want and 9/10 people will be shaking your hand at the end of the night as they have heard something unique and not tired and wasted.

Kiss fm use a computer system like most other legals. You select a time peroid/style/chart and the computer draws up a play list for you to last 1hr or however long your set is. They don't select there own tunes. Thats how sad the commercial radio industry has become. Its all off a harddrive randomly selected. I have to do this once a weak and it does my head in, but its the only way If you want to make money in the radio industry.

Long live pirate dj style!
