Cure? Yes
The fogged lungs disease is not a common illness around the world, yet often seen in mermaids. It is
primarily seen in creatures that live or travel past the sea. No one knows why.
The type of bacteria is known as diplococci. These usually harmless bacteria have somehow, most likely
through a mutation, grew flagella and can move easily and spread more rapidly. This bacteria grows in
pairs, causing ‘double the trouble.’
Through the process of binary fission, the bacteria multiplies. Yet, unlike usual bacteria which breaks
through the host cell immediately, the bacteria that multiplies continues to do so until forced to stop
because of the lack of space. When at least ¾ of the cells in a certain number around a specific organ, the
bacteria, at one time, breaks through the cell membrane and attacks one organ until the organ is almost
completely destroyed: allowing them to still function, but with a lot of pain.
The bacteria lives in the infected cells until needed later on. The problem with this disease is that these
bacteria eat the white blood cells that are suppose to kill them. The immune system is killed off almost
immediately after the first invasion of bacteria breaks open. The organ attacked first are the lungs - hints of
coughing are noticed before. Soon after that, the skin, kidneys, stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder,
intestines, and reproductive glands and organs will be affected greatly, in no order.
The bacteria will not die, but multiply more until enough are made to attack the main organs of the body.
This time could be from a week to no more than a month. When the whole immune system is destroyed,
the bacteria attacks and destroys the heart and the brain at one time. By this time, the host inhabited by
the disease has lost a lot of weight, coughs continuously, and covering is altered. Eyes lose color once, get
back the color, and then lose it completely. It can result in blindness and even deafness, but this is very
rare. It will seem that the host is sick with a severe case of pneumonia.
After the bacteria is released from its confinement, they destroy the heart and brain. This is the most
painful part of the disease, and can be easily detected by the cries of the host. Soon after that, the bacteria
kills themselves after they have tasted the heart’s precious blood. This is when the host takes the last
breath. The bacteria and host seem to die together.
There is a cure for this disease, since bacteria may be killed using a specific antibiotic. This is the flesh of a
Aurum cauda. This is a type of animal that is very small, about the size of a Earth cat. It looks like a small
gryphon, but not at all related to it. It has the body and hind legs of a lion, but with the head of a sparrow
or even a crow. They are hard to catch and are very hard to find. They are a dull brown or black, but are
distinguished by its golden tail - therefore it gets it name. With the presence of this creature alive will make
the disease stop where ever it is. With the ingestion of the gold tail which can be removed without the
creature dying, the immune system grows in bounds and becomes inedible to the bacteria. The white
blood cells then destroy the bacteria and the disease is gone. Things get back to normal in the body days
after and the host is saved. The cure can be given to the host up to when the bacteria consumes the heart.
