Without a sewing machine, eh? That's a pretty tall order. I guess you could possibly use one of those horseheads on a stick (hobbyhorse??) and try to make a pattern for the horsey part and either sew it by hand or use the "no-sew" seam stuff - iron on type stuff. You'd probably still have to reinforce it with hand sewing. And getting the horse body parts will be the hardest part. Neck, chest, butt, and 4 tubes with hooves for legs. You'd have to be VERY creative and your daughter would have to be VERY understanding. :)
The horse and rider pattern that seems to be so popular has the horse front (head/neck/chest/2 legs), and the child's legs are the back legs of the horse. Where the child's top comes out of the horse body, there are two "human" legs sewn on that come out from underneath the child's top costume. That's the best I can describe it. I think it's all attached to the child's top.
Sounds like you have your work cut out for you, unless you go buy one or borrow someone's sewing machine! Good luck!
