Subject: Boeckle stepped out of his office to notice that his hands were shaking.
In reply to: Boeckle 's message, "The Astrometrics department was bogged down with various projects." on 15:25:40 06/26/01 Tue

Not from fear or anything like that, but from anticipation. Rugby hadn't heard from another Starbase in years. Could another one be running? Was the ID-T damaged? Was that why they couldn't make contact? How many scientists aboard old Bastion were there, and what were they studying? The questions bubbled up and would in no way quiet down. He wondered if anyone noticed the jump in his step as he stepped out. He was considering going straight to Operations and seeing the smile on "Old Grim's" face.

Blasted, forget considering, his feet would have carried him over there even if his mind refused.

"Hey Boeckle, I think you should take a look at this." Boeckle slowed down and walked over to one of his staff's computers. Emmons, the cyborg sat looking at his screens, datapads strewn over his desk and also the archaic instruments of pen and replicated paper. The use of such tools never ceased to surprise Boeckle.

Boeckle nodded to Emmons who was not used to speaking very often and appreciated quick compliance to his wishes. Boeckle wasn't a harsh supervisor and he often sought to support his staff, he waited for what the cyborg had to say.

The cyborg said nothing but pointed.

On the screen was a starchart with the various sectors highlighted. One of them was blinking grey.

Boeckle had been a scientist for a long time and had studied Astrometrics and astronomy since he was young. This was not a star going nova (which showed up red on the dash) nor was it a spatial distortion…this was a star dissappearing. An entire star system…gone…

A list of possible causes went through his head:
1) Computer Malfunction
2) Spatial Distortions have not all been studied…it could very well be one
3) Our systems can't pick up whatever has happened or it doesn't understand what has happened. The easiest option would be to simply cease to display it.
4) A star system has died.

He decided to go to Engineering and let them know that the computers might be malfunctioning. Next he decided to go speak to "Old Grim". His office was always opened and his mood was always dark, but at least the experienced war officer was willing to let ideas bounce off of him while offering his own advice…the whole time compiling a report for Howitzer in his head.
