Subject: Annual program components?

Hello everyone,

As Louise and I are contacting speakers for the Annual program, it would be very helpful now to
have specifics on what each speaker shall present. Following is a *draft* blurb regarding this
session. I know that a few of you have offered suggestions on this blurb. I'm just including this as a starting point for discussion.
------------------------------------------------------------
Government Documents 101: The essentials you need to know to work with government information

Designed for new government documents librarians and those who just want to learn more about the basics of government information sources, tools, and distribution, the program will feature speakers who are professors of library
school government documents courses and representatives from the U.S.Government Printing Office and GODORT.
------------------------------------------------------------
Jill offered the following comments:
We have a concept:
Gov Docs 101
What do we mean by that? It has to be something
that could be covered in 2 hours. (Even if we think
of it as something that could be covered in a pre-conference
it needs to be a limited topic. People have semester long
classes in Gov. Docs. 101.)

Do we want an abbreviated version of the Depository
Library Seminar? I've never been to one, so I'm not
sure what that entails.

Do we want to cover administration, technical processing,
reference, participating in legislation...what?
------------------------------------------------------------
I attended the GPO Interagency Seminar a few years ago and this was the agenda:
Day One-All about GPO-LPS, Sales, Promotion, EIDS, tour
Day Two-Federal Register, GPO ACCESS
Day Three-GAO, DOE, NOAA, USGS
Day Four-Patents and trademarks, copyright
Day Five-Census
Day Six (1/2 day)-Library of Congress National Digital Library and tour of Serial and Gov Pubs Division at LC
------------------------------------------------------------
Who is our target audience? Since we're contacting library schools, one audience is new gov docs librarians. In that case, you may wish to take a look at:
http://www.library.unt.edu/classes/lis/slis5660/21thngs.html
This give some nice ideas, and the author teaches gov docs.
This is my idea - I was thinking of having four speakers because it seems like it will be easier to coordinate. We already have Sheila McGarr confirmed, and I understand that Louise has asked the author of the above document. I plan on asking another gov docs prof today who, as I understand, has been active in GODORT and Council.

What would we like each speaker to discuss and how many shall we have?
