It had happened the moment Briar gripped his ragged fur. 'It' was a catastrophe and a dilemma. 'It' was a revelation so strtong that strung like a thousand fire bees and punctured like the strongest of icy spears. A pain unlike any other. And familiarity that ran his blood cold and made his clawed, padded toes numb with fear. The old wolf stifles the instinctive yelp that dared to threaten to escape him, but endures the strange burning sensation instead. After a moment, it is unbearable and the wolf stops on a dime. He very carefully pulls away from Briar's grip, unable to endure that physical bite of the unknown source -- the battered canine cringes and backs away, his tail tucked between his legs.

:What, terrible....that was painful then, dear boy! If you figure how, you can do it yourself, Briar, and be done. Heal, I mean. Anyone able to sting an anthro such as I has some power. If you know me, though you probably musn't, you know I can't be touched with power. That will kill me! Hammers and nails pain, I tell you. Cover your power, brindle it, or I cannot drag you on. Here, now.:

Although it seems like much to say, speech of the thought was much quicker to the sound and understanding than spoken words. Luck was this old wolf, for he usually had much to say. Huttser sits on his haunches, quivering slightly. The constant sting that had occured when Briar had touched him remained as a painful and recent memory. He turns his grizzled muzzle towards Sadie Rose.

:Princess,: he says, a little timidly...for a wolf, anyway. :Problems in sight. We cannot do this like this. Saying so, your power cannot suffice. His is too wild to touch. Perhaps...: The old wolf looks between Briar and Rose. :Ah, Briar. Listen, do one of two things, poor soul. Listen, though I know the pain shout, but! You are strong. One, here...Rose will tell you how to heal yourself! Ah, don't argue. You have that power, I know it because it jabbed at me that moment! Or do this -- your power is wild, flailing. Another touch will surely paralyze me. So draw it in, confine it within yourself. Pretend to package it, yes! Like wrapping your Gift, that power, in a box...to open later. Confine it. Emotions work well to help. Heal yourself, or allow me to carry you! Confine it, box it, whatever. Now, not much time...:

Of course Huttser had heard Briar's plaintive demand for Lily, or her assistance. In fact, the old wolf had smelled the scent of the sweat on the horses and the human stench already, as they were downwind from the carriage. But the wolf's driven focus in on the wounded boy. Huttser did not know of Lily's strange appearance -- only that she was down the road and clearly in no need of assistance. The wolf could see Briar only, and his slow descent towards probable death.

Well, there had already been one death today. There would not be another.
