Oh my....many treat the animals with respect but many think of them as a sub-species. Here's an example....for several years a beautiful stray cat in my area choose to have her kittens in my front garden....with all the pesticides, lawn chemicals, cars, and people, the kittens didn't stand much of a chance....so each year I brought them in and cared for them. Mom cat didn't seem to mind, it was as if she knew that her babies were being well looked after. Besides, if she didn't like it she wouldn't have come back every year.
I faithly raised them....feeding them with eye droppers, helping them go to the bathroom, groomed them, played with them, cuddled with them, I even tried to teach them things that their mother would have taught. I lovingly did everything in my power to help this beautiful gifts from God. Each year I did this and each year I would spend about $1,000 on the kittens....not one neighbour offered to help! Not a penny. Not even support!
One year a neighbour actually dumped a load of kittens on my doorstep. I stood there with 6 kittens in a box watching her leave my driveway....not a word....she just left them. The worst of it was that the kittens were ill and even with my loving attempts within two months they all died. They died from diseases that could have been prevented by people being aware, by people loving their pets and the animals in our area.
It saddens me to think that people don't care....they let their animals roam free and then dump the consequences on others. I don't mind caring for them as I love animals, especially cats....but why couldn't they help?....even just a kind word to me or the kittens would have made my day....a blanket or two....a few dollars to buy kitty litter or food....or maybe help with the 24/7 care.
To me animals are our equals....they are God's creatures just as much as we are....we are all on this Earth together!
Catherine.
