Subject: Wavy and wet?

When I was little I used to have naturally curly hair and everyone thought it was cute. Over the years those curls have evolved into lose waves. I began to love my waves more than the curls - the waves perfectly framed my face. Unfortunately, the "straightening" trend started and I absolutely loved my hair straight. The bright side? I came to my senses and stopped ironing my hair just in time so I didn't do too much harm to my waves. Now, however, I only get the look when I want right after a shower. I like the loose waves when they're wet, but after thirty to forty minutes, my hair starts to dry and get poofy-ish. Is that because of the straightening I used to do? I must add, I'm a competitive swimmmer and swim for at least an hour a day, but I always wear a swim cap and put the protective spray in before I every lap session. Is the chlorine still damaging my hair? I have very dark, fine, thick hair that reaches just past my shoulders. I really want that wet, wavy look but I dont know what to do!! and I don't want to damage my hair even more with products, unless you're certain that they aren't damaging... Help me!! How do I get that out-of-the-shower look, and stay un-poofified for a few hours??
