Author: Raph Sar
Subject: "So, when do we get to meet the wizard?"
In reply to: Biggs 's message, "Biggs Saw an winged creature fly by his house..." on 12:54:23 08/25/01 Sat

The quintet proceeded through the forest, following Biggs. "Raph" was right behind him, being prodded every now and then by a non-spinning buzzsaw from the wrist of the cybernetic Mercado. Chris was sullenly taking up the rear as Nathaniel soared overhead, keeping watch.

When Biggs had first greeted the party, he had seen Raph Sar was not mechanical like his brother. Indeed, the impression that had reached the faceless spirit guide was simply from a distance a reflection off this Sar's creator. Raph was spawned from his brother's nightmarish memories, the TLA dictator only alive through the nature of Mercado entering the dream realm in the flesh(and metal). Though warned by Rana of such dangers, Mercado was upset to learn he had not the strength of will to comply. He realized his mistake too late--in trying to keep all thoughts of his beloved Lighdia from his mind, he had simply focused on a previous emotional blow, the betrayal and subsequent death of his brother prior to and during the battle with the WR@. And now, Raph, or some version of him, was a part of their quest. Mercado wondered if his brother could exist outside of Dah'Li now, but definitely didn't want to find out. If it came to that, if when they returned via the scroll Rana was holding in Ice Comp they found Raph with them, Mercado wasn't sure it was in him to kill his own brother. By the same token, the thought of him reaching other technology-hating Nebulans sympathetic to his defunct cause, and rebuilding his empire, was equally undesireable. Unsconsciously, he gave Raph another jab with his buzzsaw.

"Watch it, Cado! Lucky thing for you that thing's not spinning! I'm a part of you, you know, a part of your memory--cut me and you might well risk brain damage! Wait--I'm sorry, that happened when that anomaly Ebonhawk wired you into that armor himself on Father's farm! Never did talk the same after that, did you? Cutting me out of your subconscious might well go unnoticed in THAT brain!

Hey! I said stop, you insolent Unebulan! Such violence--that's THEIR way, you know! The aliens. The metal monsters who came and took our mother from us with their poisonous fuel! They denied knowing the radiation would affect some of us that way, but could they deny the very war they brought to our shores? To our fields? Could they?! That wench you used to write poems for--her grandfather ended up leading some of them, didn't he? Heard her father didn't last too long though with his own anomalies. And yet, through all that, though you tended the farm after mother died, after father and I went off to speak our just cause, STILL you bonded with that--that THING!

"Shut up. Nothing left had Mercado. What lose was there?"

"Oh, Cado, spare us all such third-person ramblings! Really now, no wonder Lighdia preferred oblivion's embrace to your cold compani--oooughgh!!"

Mercado connected hard with his brother's chin, even as his punch carried him forward into a tackle. Chris steadied himself against a tree as Nathaniel soared down to separate them, just missing seeing the new spirit form that had arrived. Soon the angelic officer had the two apart, and once more, with some prodding from Biggs, they were on their way...
