Well maybe I should come more often here, more lovely Dutch will spoil this site even more.....

Dutch, German and English are all German languages, that word German comes from the German empire 2000 years ago.

Netherlands means the same as Holland, it both means low land, because there are no mountains.

When you speak of the Netherlands you mean the whole country. Holland is a part in the west, in the 19th century the Netherlands was a republic and there was a state called Holland. Now you have 2 provinces Noord-Holland and Zuid- Holland. But that's technically or offically speaking. It doesnt matter if you say youre from Holland or The Netherlands.
