Subject: Coach Hoover and his staff teach lessons for life.

Just wanted to send a note from sunny Florida. I have been around High School basketball for many years. But only once have I seen a coaching staff truly coach basketball in a way that provides lessons that the players can take with them as they proceed down the path of life. That one time was last years Mckinley boys basketball program. The lessons for basketball that coach Hoover and his staff provided to their players were also valuable lessons in life. The lessons were so obvious and on point that players and fans a like can take the lessons off the Fieldhouse floor into life and be successful. Yes the players had a great season and received many team and individual awards. However, those awards will become secondary as the players move through life. Should the players take the lessons learned and apply them to life, they will be prepared to become successful in what ever endevor they pursue. They will also be prepared to be strong citizens and productive members of the community in which they live and raise their families.

The lessons learned included taking success and failure from prior experiences in the proper prospective and build upon them without resting on the past. Also, the players learned that success does not just happen, it must be planned and practiced with many sacrifices. It also takes discipline and determination along with the ability to give and accept constructive critisism.

Yes last year, as well as this coming year, may be coach Hoovers best coaching job, but I think it goes further. It might just be one of the best teaching jobs as well. Based on that, in addition to the coach of the year, I feel coach Hoover also deserves to receive the teacher of the year award.

Good luck to the Bulldogs in 2005-2006. I know if they pactice and use what coach Hoover has taught them, they will have yet another successful year and a few more tools to place in their tool box of life.
