Subject: Joining a Candidate!

Name: Sanna

Gender and Age: female, about 18 or 19 Turns

Appearance: A little bedraggled from her recent raft trip across the unpredictable ocean, Sanna's stained and patched brownish hide clothing--sleeveless shirt and calf-length leggings--are still damp, sandy, and ragged. Fairly tall for a woman at 5'10", she stands proudly, lean and rather uncurved but mostly built of toned muscle. Her face is plain, features slim and refined, straight hair longish and uneven from too many hacks with a blunt knife; most men wouldn't call her beautiful, but neither is she ugly. In color, she mostly resembles her biological father (or so she was told as a fosterling): storm-grey eyes and black hair with naturally bronzed skin. All in all, she looks like she's been living in the wilderness for Turns--which she has. ^^;;

Personality: Sanna is rather quiet, a thinker as much as a doer. Highly intelligent and analytical, she has a knack for calculating ways to solve problems, and she has a tendency to overanalyze situations and worry too much about possible outcomes and consequences. (Of course, this means bad things rarely catch her off-guard, though.) Something of a dragon and Weyr admirer, due to a dragonrider friend, Sanna knows most of the lore concerning the Weyrs, as well as many practical aspects of them--mending riding harnesses and oiling dragons, for example. Courteous but still firm in her words, Sanna is accustomed to taking charge to get things accomplished, though she's far from a dynamic leader; however, she's happy to play right-hand woman to a more people-inclined person, as she tends to like her solitude too much to ever want a permanent leadership position. And, in the midst of it all, Sanna still likes the simple things: watching the sun rise alone in the drum heights, walking in the surf, caring for inside plants. When overwhelmed with stress, worry, or a bad situation, she tends to retreat into solitude and enjoy those things--she's not above fleeing temporarily until she can regain her head.

History: Born the daughter of a dragonrider, Sanna was immediately put into the fostercare of the Igen Holder family, seeing as her parents had befriended that royal family some years past. She was raised as one of them, seeing as her biological parents never informed the Weyr or their fellows of her existence, and called the young man who would have inherited Holdership her brother (even though she didn't call the Lord and Lady Holder her mother or father). Her life was rather plain, even after it was explained to her who her biological parents were and what they had done, and she only really remembered the names of her parents, rather than the descriptions of them, being rather young. Once Thread returned and the very earth beneath became unstable, Igen Hold emptied except for a few stragglers who refused to leave--Sanna was accidentally left behind, having gone on one of her typical day-long inspections of the lesser Hold duties and gotten trapped when an earthshake trapped her in the deep of the Hold. She was dug out a few days later by a bluerider who had refused to flee the area with everyone else: his name was P'mal, his dragon Creneth. For the next few uncertain Turns, he took care of the young teenager, teaching her the more practical skills that she hadn't learned as a Holder's surrogate daughter--hunting, weaving, the like. He also taught her dragonlore, enriching it with tales of his own experiences, as he was no novice to life. Then, the one or two people that they kept contact with began spreading rumors of a rebuilt Weyr, and P'mal and Sanna immediately attempted to find it--P'mal to have a home, and Sanna in hopes of Impressing a dragon so that she, too, could experience the wonder that P'mal told her of so often. However, caught in one of the storms, Sanna and P'mal were separated. After a Turn or two living alone, barely surviving day to day, Sanna built a raft and escaped the tiny islet on which she'd been stranded and reached Benshing Island. Ta da! ^^;;

Skills: Having been fostered and raised in Igen Hold, Sanna has some basic Holding skills--managing drudges, cleaning and cooking (or supervising those), making sure little things that keep a place running are done regularly (replacing dimming glows, feeding the canines, checking for bugs in the gardens and groves, etc). She's also, through the kindness of the Lady Holder, been moderately introduced into the wider-ranging basics of running an entire Hold, all the way from politics and trade to inside social skills and "proper manners". However, after Pern became an inhospitable place to live for those without wings or access to them, Sanna's learned quite a bit more about very base survival skills such as hunting, fishing, weaving, mending clothing, and rudimentary first-aid. Also, through teaching of a dragonrider friend, she's learned the basics of dragon care and maintenance.
