I'm sorry if I didn't make the proper notation, but actually, rereading my post, I think it might be a bit misleading. The ending of The Bronze Horseman is ambiguous.

SPOILERS

Alexander isn't dead--as far as the reader knows--at the end. In fact, since there are two sequels, I think it's fair to say that he's still alive.

And, as far as my enjoyment of the book goes, you could tell me the entire plot and it would still be worth reading just for the experience of it--for the great love between Tatiana and Shura, and for the lovely prose. I've already read it twice and enjoyed it just as much the second time around.

Anyway, again, I'm sorry if I've spoiled things for you.
