LORD OF A THOUSAND NIGHTS. The title refers to a nickname that the English court has given to Ian, the novel's charismatic, sexy hero. He is a "bad boy", a sensualist, and something of a medieval rake, but beneath his charm and freebooting ways he hides a very dark secret. The heroine, Reyna, is a widow and scholar who is appalled to discover that she is just as susceptible as every other woman to this most unsuitable man. The novel includes both humor and profound emotional intensity, and takes place on the Scottish border against the backdrop of Morvan Fitzwaryn's attempt to reclaim his family estate of Harclow. Ian is a mercenary in Morvan's army. Readers of THE PROTECTOR will briefly meet Ian when Morvan and Anna de Leon journey to London in that book. Release is scheduled for January, 2002.

MARK'S STORY: In BY DESIGN, Joan's brother Mark was an angry, rebellious teenager with a huge chip on his shoulder, coping with wounds he did not even comprehend yet. Ten years later he is older and wiser, but burdened with the legacy of those youthful experiences. Worse, the King has arranged a marriage for him, but instead he falls in love with his future bride's seductive, mysterious sister, who just happens to have a past history with the King himself. Full of political intrigue, divided loyalties, and powerful sensuality, this novel has tentatively been titled THE KING'S WHORE. I expect it to be published in 2002.
