Subject: A Letter of Reason

Dear Mother who is concerned,
I am, like your daughter, a member of the site Skoki Valley and I do spend a great deal of time on the computer. I also, on occasion, I minimize the screen window so that my mom can't see what I am typing. Why? Because I'm somewhat embarassed about it... not because anything is bad. In the rules of Skoki Valley no sexual content or swearing is allowed. Those who break the rules often suffer consequences. Thus, it never happens and there is nothing to worry about. Anyway, the reason I'm embarassed about Skoki Valley sometimes is because my mom doesn't understand the concept of Role Playing... I've tried but can't explain it and I often feel dumb or idiotic because she doesn't understand why I Role Play. Thus I hide it from her. Perhaps it is the same with your daughter? If so, there is no reason to worry, she just doesn't want to feel odd because you might not understand why she does this. Fianally, if you are concerned about the amount of time she spends on the computer, perhaps limit it and ask her to spend a little more time with you but dont take it away completely... that doesn't serve any purpose... Compare it to this, you have a child who eats candy too much, you can limit it, and the child would still be happy but wouldn't get sick because they ate it too much... or you can take it away completely and the child could be sad. Okay, that was kind of a dumb example but I hope you got the idea.

Thanks for listening,
Liz
