Sarah, et. al.

I think this is a great idea! We definitely don't want to clutter up the other site with long discussion threads about the books we're reading, especially since some of our Family members aren't participating. Besides, I don't think the discussion site needs to be any fancier than this.

Sarah, thanks for choosing the first book! I think two to three weeks should be enough time for everyone to secure a copy, whether it be through purchase or at your local library. As for how to handle discussions, I think it may be a bit excessive to do it after every chapter, but I also think we should discuss as we're reading and not wait until everyone finishes. Perhaps we can offer comments after every five chapters? I suppose this may vary depending on the organization of each book, but maybe we can shoot for this as a start?

Also, I don't think anyone should feel compelled to comment if they don't want to. We can talk about character development, plot lines, whatever...I don't think we necessarily need a formal structure to enjoy sharing and learning from other people's ideas.

I DO think we should set a drop-dead date for finishing the book, however. That way, people who read faster or more often can possibly work on other books too, in addition to the Book Club selection. Also, we can all move on to the next book simultaneously, instead of making it some kind of race.

Let's figure out the schedule once we all have the book (approx. January 21?) and know how long it is/how it's divided up. Does this work for everyone?
