You see, sweety, sometimes the clouds get really thirsty, so they suck water up from all the bodies of water--rivers, ponds, lakes, streams, that kind of thing. When the water is travelling through the air, it kind of melds with the air so it's invisable and we can't see it. But sometimes, the clouds drink too much! Then they say, 'Whoop! We'd better let some of this water go, or else we'll sink down and get stuck on the earth until we evaporate'--which means turn into air. So the clouds let all the water back out, and it drops back onto the earth. Then the clouds say, 'Oh dear, now we don't have any water--and we can't hold on!' And indeed they can't, and the wind says, 'Ha-ha, cloudies, you're coming with me!' And the wind sweeps the clouds away to another part of the land, and when the clouds get settled there, they starting drinking up the water from that land. And it happens all over again. And by the way, the water falling out of the sky is called rain, and it's what you're named after! *She smiles a bit when she realizes how much talking she had just done and leans lovingly on her mate, glad that he's there for her. Then, very suddenly, a though pops into her head.* Oh my goodness! Rebel, hon! A while ago I heard that a territory to the south, Fern Hill, is a special place for foals! Kind of like a daycare, but with no adults! They can go there and play all day with other foals! Maybe Rainy would like to go. We could check it out, you know, see if it's still active. *She nuzzles his neck, wondering what he'll think of her plan. While he thinks she glances meaningfully at Rainy and stretches out a hind leg so he can have dinner.*
