Subject: Complexity: More or less?

The real question behind Paul's suggested changes is this:

Would the league be more interesting to more GMs if it was more complicated, if there were more things to do, more random things that could happen to your team besides injury and retirement? Is the problem with some people's fading interest that, beyond trades and the occasional FA, there's not much to do in this league? (BTW: a lot of people really like to read the articles on the site. I've slacked off over the past year or so, but Paul has told me that GM-submitted articles are one of the biggest things that drive traffic to the FWL site.)

Other leagues that run newer versions of FP have things like contracts and salary caps, which is one way to make a GM's job harder. And Paul suggested introducing concepts like holdouts. There is precedent for that sort of thing: after the first draft I suggested the "protected list" we now use in order to make it possible to bring more rookies into camp, since we can't expand the rosters like they do in the NFL.

Or do people like things relatively uncomplicated? Let's face it, there's hardly any way we could make the FWL LESS work...yet as it stands a lot of guys can't be bothered to deactivate a horribly mangled player, which sends him out week after week and essentially punishes the rest of the league because it gives his opponents a virtually guaranteed win.
