I'm announcing the retirements a week on Wednesday. I would do these sooner but a lot of GM's actually like a longer period before the retirements are announced to make trades.

Yes you dont know who will retire and who wont but its up to you whether to make the risk or not. You'll find a lot of 11+ year players are cheap in a trade and obviously you can get rid of any older players in case they retire
