Our perceptions of that same tree would be different. There would be slight differences of focus based on interests. Yes it would be the same tree.

But if we spoke a different language the same tree could be called by different names. If we painted it, we would choose different aspects and angles of vision. The same thing looks different to different people.

Reality is reality. That is simple enough to understand. Perception is art. I choose to see reality and create art with it. I choose to give that tree some more meaning than that of a plant. I wish to be connected to it through a shared creation and purpose for a larger purpose than filling space until I rot.

Of course people have been killing each other for these types of reasons for at least 5000 years. They also kill each other out of lust, greed, etc. You could argue that if there are no gods than all killing stems from this. Is seeing a tree as just a tree going to stop the killing? What if humans are seen as just animals and then bred accordingly?

I still choose a grander vision. This is my contribution to a hope that we will value all life. I do it by refusing to accept that it is just a tree, or that any person is just an animal, or that we are just here to fill space until we rot.
