That is something that runs through my mind in regards to the Adam and Eve story and many people have never though of what I said and I am not trying to be argumentative with the following either, even though I don’t believe in that interpretation. Adam and Eve (as described in the bible) where basically created ignorant without having ANY idea of what good is or what bad is. To them, they had no concept of right or wrong. If they did something, they didn’t know that what they were doing was right or wrong. It is totally different when you know what is good and what is evil and then go out and do something wrong but when you are in a state of ‘without knowledge of good and evil’ then you are in a whole new boat. It would be a whole and totally different story if the serpent came up to Eve and Eve already knew what good and evil was. Then she could make a proper judgment. Yet, when she got lied to, she had no idea that what she was doing was wrong, she had no idea what a lie was, she had no idea what evil was. She was completely ignorant in her state of being. Yet, why would God then punish them both when they had no idea that what they were doing was wrong? And yet, think about this. Adam and Eve did not know that what they did was wrong until AFTER they ate from the tree because it wasn’t until AFTER they ate from it that they knew what good and bad was and it was then and only then, that they knew that they did something wrong. If they had eaten from the tree and God took away the knowledge the tree gave them, they would once again not know that what they had done was wrong. Being in such a state is something I can not imagine. I could never imagine myself going through life without knowing what good or evil was. Not knowing whether or not my actions are right or wrong. Not knowing what a lie was, etc etc etc. Yet, why would God then go out and start it off that way? Why is it that he hid the knowledge of good and evil? Why was that tree even in the garden in the first place? That’s why it doesn’t add up to me. Would God really be that ignorant to put such a tree in the middle of the garden with two ignorant beings? That and the fact that a rebellious angel running around and god puts a tree in the middle of it! No matter what a person believes God to be, God knows exactly what his actions lead to and God has a reason and purpose for setting things up the way they were. |
