Subject: Sorrow expressed

A friend of mine, Don Hiter, lost his oldest son today. His son was struggling as of late and took his own life. I cannot express my own feelings of sorrow towards my friend and his family.

I know the world is not always nice. I know that we must endure many trying things, sometimes the deaths of those closest to us. I also know how much we would like to shelter our children from these realities. It is from these things I know that the fact that a friend's child has given up facing these realities becomes more disturbing.

Please let he and his family find comfort and eventually see the beauty around them. May we all understand that these things dim all of our perceptions if we allow them to, and strive to keep our sight clear. May our examples give strength to those weary of the struggles of life. May we find the little things that can be done to help those considering suicide.

Lord, please help us grieve. Let us go on to praise you one more day in our service of others. Give me the strength to lift my head high enough to be a help to others.
