Judaism is the collective religious, cultural and legal tradition and civilization of the Jewish people as developed and passed down from the beginning of the biblical period until today. As such, it is not monolithic. It encompasses many different historical periods, as well as many different approaches to the central questions of God, man and the world. Yet all these "Judaisms" are tied together by the common thread of continuity of tradition, and by the collective historical destiny of the children of Israel.
