Subject: Began a class on Demons in the Bible and related texts

The first question was "What is a demon?"

We tried to define the term historically and identified the change in roles of demons.

The change occurred in the intertestimental period (50 - 150 CE). At that time the idea of demons being "evil" was added to the definition.

Possible reason: The merger of polytheistic ideas with monotheism during the emergence of Christianity, and flux of Judaism.

It is not an accident that Judaism excluded some texts at this time that contained more writings about demons. These are still found in the Apocrypha.
