There are actually two ideals of a messiah. The first is for a military king, and the other is to bring peace. The accepted thought is that this will be fulfilled ny the peace brought by the king- which will last for a thousand years.

Of course the other side is that there is also reason to allow for the Christian interpretations. Many of these ideals are mirrored in the modern Lubavitch beliefs in the Rebbe being the messiah.

Of course there is no idea that the messiah will be more than a man (just one that can accomplish this).
