Subject: Selling

*The man rides in on his horse, kicking it impatiently. Behind him are four wagons, and beside those are horses of every color imaginable for desertbred such as them. Pulling up the big grey he slides off clumsily, shouting orders to the slaves in an impatient voice. After a few hours a camp is set up, veiled women tending to fires and dinner while the men and a woman or two stand before tables and a few slave boys watch the horses. The tables are heaped high with silks and clothing, perfumes and jewelry, foods and wines, swords and everything possible, some things unfamiliar rarities from distant countries. Under a great tent sit many women, one or two tied as they struggle to free themseves, most calm. Under another tent are many boys and men, even a few girl children, all obviously slaves. The horses being watched are all magnificent and beautiful, desert born and bred. All are ready to be sold.*
