Subject: Vic's in Vesper

As some of you might have guessed from my frequent absences and the things I've written on my site and elsewhere, I have been at a low point in my UO career lately. The dev team has again disappointed me and those of us who hope for boat fixes and new seafaring things to do in UO.

So, in one final attempt to squeeze some enjoyment out of UO, I am going to attempt to embrace something we discussed earlier and see where it leads me. I have set myself up in the Vesper (Trammel) Customs office and will be acting as harbormaster for that town.

With my work schedule, I will not usually be in my office until after 1AM EST on most nights. Also, I will be in and out of the office at times, patrolling the rivers of Vesper and the bay. I will perhaps at those times leave a comm crystal on my desk so folks stopping by can contact me.

I did a test run of this on Monday night, and it was a blast. I rescued a necromancer in training from a water elemental in the bay, brought in three abandoned and unlocked ships that were adrift out there, did a quick patrol of the rivers, and was visited by a complete stranger who, very much in character, stopped in my office inquiring about the legendary Khaldun Journals. He's a rares collector. I was able to obtain copies of the ones I already have for him, and after discussions with this person I learned that other journals exist still in Khaldun, so I have been sending Toner there in hopes of acquiring a full set for this person as well as for my own library.

I plan to also compile several books of my own in my office as time permits, about the Vesper Harbor rules, ships, etc. I will use the office to promote fishing, seafaring, and my site. Possibly also as a place to recruit new guildmembers if I meet worthy candidates. I will also do some fishing nearby at times, of course. Somewhere over the years I've forgotten that at its heart UO is still a roleplaying game, and this is the role I have chosen to play.

I don't know whatever became of our guild's presence in Vesper, but I will of course welcome any support in this role. And of course I will welcome visits by all of you to my office when I am there. Stop by if you want to go fishing, need my help with a hunt, of just to chat. My office hours will be normally after 1AM, though. I will try to be there at that time every night (say between 1 and 1:15 to check on things), but as always with my schedule I will make no guarantees.

Those events I described that happened Monday night really got me going on this. Of course, who knows - I may burn out on it in a week or two. But I've got to try it - I need to like logging in again. As much as I've always preferred Felucca, Trammel is populated and my encounter with that stranger who sought the Khaldun Journals reminded me of that fact. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in silly side projects both in-game and out that I forget what it is about UO that appeals to me the most - roleplaying and hanging with mature like-minded folks like all of you.

So, look for me at my office(its on the island just south of the inn and north of the museum), I will post updates to this effort and to my office hours on this board as necessary. And feel free to comment on this endeavor on my part. I know, I've started many initiatives like this in the past and abandoned them without putting a full effort into them - so I will understand any skepticism you wish to hurl my way :P. But I hope for your support, as well. At the very, very least, let's use this office as a way of supporting the return of regularly scheduled net nights, perhaps once a month?
