Subject: He steps to the edge of the territory, eyes immediately moving towards Cobweb's perfect form, sorrow hidden within the deep pools that so determinedly hide all emotion from the surface. He sighs softly, watching her move, ears pricking just to catch the sweet melody of her voice. He stands unnoticed, not announcing his presence, for he knew she did not feel the same about him, he could not influence her, he could not make her love him, not matter how he tried. Finally he whickers, the shrill sound carrying over the pass, then turns, vanishing back to his new home, Frightening Plains.

Ears catching his whicker, her ears prick instantaneously, straining for the sound, and her head whirls around, but only to catch his retreating form. She snorts softly, wishing things in life could be known to be certain, rather than the gamble life often seemed. She knew Black Death cared for her... It was no question, and part of her was in anguish at the thought of what must be going on in his mind and in his heart. She told no one this, but she also knew of her own deep and yet unshaken trust and respect in him, valiant and noble as he'd always been. She also knew this: she did not know what love truly was. Perhaps she'd confused it with respect, for she wasn't certain she loved Mercury, but that she had a deeper respect for the mare than she'd found herself having before. But...how could she ever tell anyone any of this? Instead, she forced herself to leave them questioning her, and she questioning herself also... (NT)Cobweb05:40:51 01/12/02 Sat
