Debi,

On a whim, I told my girlfriend, whose maiden name is SOUTHARD, that I would try to trace her Dad's ancestors in the census. I was real lucky and found them from 1930 on back to 1850. Her line is as follows:

Father - Herman R. SOUTHARD (twin) and Roberta Helen GROSS
Grandfather - John C. SOUTHARD and Minnie Lee GIVENS
Great Grandfather - William A. SOUTHARD and Quintilla CHANDLER (twin)
GG-Grandfather - William SOUTHARD and Mrs. Rebecca (Detherage) JOHNS

Since the families were always in Johnson Twp., Maries Co., MO, (Dist 24, Crawford Co., MO in 1850 since there was evidently no Maries Co. in 1850), and Gilliam (Gilham) is there also in 1850, I'm guessing that Gilliam is William's father.

Do you know of any sources to confirm this?

Thanks! Ruth
