Albert, it looks like the author was unsure of the sizes of ships of the line, but by the time he did his frigate books, he had settled down to just one measurement. Of the three books, 11,12, and 13, covering Portuguese frigates during the period of 1775-1815, ONLY one vessel is listed with alternate dimensions. As I mentioned, Princesa Do Brasil (1774-1807) is listed as being 141 Portuguese feet long, or 46.53 m. The beam is listed as 34 Portuguese feet, or 11.22 m. Unless I come across any more compelling information, I will use the ratio of 1.082675 when determining tonnage for wargaming purposes.
