Many thanks, AP.
At Chapman's "Architectura navalis mercatoria", Plate XXXVI (a privateer frigate), there are some designs of a very special 3-pounder swivel gun (the armament proposed by Chapman was 20x6-pounders on gun-deck, 2x4-pounders on FC and QD and 32x3-pounders swivel guns (from outside the frigate looks as a two-decked vessel, but one of the decks was armed with those swivels).
Juan C. Sidders ("Veleros del Plata. Elementos de Arqueología Naval", Instituto de Publicaciones Navales, Centro Naval, Buenos Aires, 1982, pages 254-257 and "lámina" -plate- XXXVII, copied from various sources), said that the Spanish swivels (at least from the last wuarter of the XVIII Century) were named "pedreros" or "falconetes" (mostly the largest ones) and they were from 1/2 pound to 2 or 3 pounds (Rovira in 1787 named last two, that were breech-loading guns).
The three Spanish vessels armed in 1818 at Filipinas as the "División de Manila" have some of these swivel guns: the smaller of them was the schooner ("goleta") "Mosca", armed with 8 guns (6 pounders), 4 "falconetes" (2 pounders) and 3 "pedreros" (1/2 pounders); she was rated as a 8-gunned vessel, none of the swivels counted to the rate.
Bye and thanks
Gerardo
