Subject: PS2 Backups (copies), modchips etc...
In reply to: James 's message, "Backup Copied Playstation2 Games" on 14:58:48 04/15/02 Mon

ok, to copy ps2 games it's possible to use a cd burner. But many cd burners will not accept dvd rom disc's (ps2 games). this is simply because its a dvd rom disc, hence a cd drive- wether its a burner or just a drive will not accept it. when i place a ps2 game in my cd burner- it attempts to read the disc, but cant. because its a dvd...
i reccommend trying to copy the disc using a dvd/ cd burner combo drive.
Now dvd burners will deffinately copy ps2 games, this is fact. I personally dont have a dvd bruner because i believe their too expensive a.t.m.
There is also a format war going on. I.E. big brands cant decide what type of disc to play dvd's on etc...
if and when u have successfully copied a ps2 game onto a dvd-r disc u cannot play it in your ps2 console straight away! This is because your ps2 console will need to be modified.-It needs to be fitted with a modchip! FACT. Their are a few modchips available.

What does a modchip do?
To prevent people from playing import games or the so called 'gold disks' (copied) playstation2 games, the PS2 checks, if the inserted dvd matches the console code during bootup. If they don´t match, it stops loading. The so called MOD Chip cheats the PS2 and injects the right country code during the boot sequence. As a result you are able to play import games and the copied Playstation2 discs. You may need an action replay cd or game shark 2 for successful loading of the game. Now make sure you shop around for the nest and latest modchip. Check details on more than one web site. It will void your guarantee if you fit a mod chip. It is legal to copy and play copied games of any console if you own the original disc. If you copy games that you rent ur likely to be in deep shit.

ok in short.
i reccommend u get a dvd burner these copy ps2 games.
ur ps2 will need to be fitted with a modchip, this void's ur warranty
only some cd burners will copy dvd's but very few do.
its illegal to copy games that u dont own.
hopefully this will help...
email me or leave another msg if i haven't explained anything clearly.
