Subject: Two pages of script from Joss Whedon's "Astonishing X-Men"

This apparently was released in this week's Previews (an ordering booklet for comic retailers). Whedon's doing twelve issues of The Astonishing X-Men starting in May; peep the dialogue and start the obvious comparisons to certain "Buffy" chacters' voices.

------------------------------------------------------------

Page Sixteen:

Panel One:
On Kitty and Emma in the Danger Room:

Kitty
Remember when this place was just flame-throwers and rotation knives? I miss that.

Emma
Can we please let Scott finish, people?

Kitty
Now I have cloud-hair.

Panel two:
Above them all as Scott continues -- Hank working a floating keypad not unlike the one on Emma's podium before.

Scott
The point is simply this: we need to get into the world. Saving lives, helping with disaster relief...we need to present ourselves as a team like any other.

Scott
Avengers, Fantastic Four -- they don't get schased through the street with torches.

Logan
Here comes the tights...

Panel three:
On Scott.

Scott
Sorry Logan, Superheroes wear costumes. And quite frankly, all the black leather is making people nervous.

Panel four:
On Kitty, her hair a little wet, raising her hand. Logan in BG, Emma looking away.

Kitty
Ok, I officially really really don't know why I'm here. I'm not a fighter like you guys.

Logan
You've been in it plenty, kid. I'd take you at my back any day.

Panel five:
Scott again, as the background behind him becomes weirdly digitized.

Scott
But you're not a fighter. Your power isn't aggressive, it's protective. That's good to show. And people like you.

Page Seventeen:

Panel One:
On the group, as a beach locale, normal size, is forming around them. Hank looking up from the keyboard.

Hank
(to himself)
Here we are...

Scott
Hank's articulate as anything, but what people see is mostly...well, a beast. Emma's a former villian. Logan's a thug.

Logan
Born and bred.

Scott
And me...I can lead a team.

Panel two:
Tight on Scott.

Scott
But I haven't looked anybody in the eye since I was fifteen.

Panel three:
Kitty doesn't look happy, therefore Emma is.

Kitty
So I'm, what, a PR Stunt?

Emma
Yes, our own poster child. Isn't it sweet? "The Non-threatening Shadowcat". Or "Sprite", or "Ariel" or whatever incredibly unimpressive name you're using nowadays.

Panel four:
Scott. And the rest in BG, Emma looking taken aback --

Scott
Emma, shut up. You all may have perfectly good reasons for not wanting to do this. But you're the team I chose. So think about it.

Panel five:
HZ on a rather glum group, Hank gamely offering:

Hank
Am I the only one who's dying to see the outfits?

I like the nod to the movie/comic uniform discrepancy.

When does the first issue come out?

At least, that's according to the solicitations, and it could in theory be late. I would hope the first issue didn't ship late, but both Whedon and Cassaday have had significant delays in their past comic work.

I'm not a huge fan of the first cover, but the second cover really does it for me. I quite like his rendition of Emma Frost.
